Radio Flare

My iPhone game, Radio Flare, is a musical shooter. We got a nomination at the Independent Games Festival Mobile for “Best Audio” which is quite adequate for a game that features an interactive music soundtrack (by DJ Glow) and 44.1khz samples in a world of soundless games.

The last months have been a blissful nightmare. Here are some things I spent most of my time with:

- I did my best to get a new issue of eludamos out the door.
- I learned how to properly code a game engine.
- I designed, produced, and programmed an iPhone game with Fares Kayali.
- I worked an average of 60 hours a week.
- The rabbit died. So we have a cat now.

i just finished my new piece “approximating a steam engine”. it is a sound installation that deals with the industrial revolution, steam engines, and the perils of the patent system. head to the web site linked above for details.

in two days i will head to MANIFESTA7, my biggest show so far. i’ll exhibit a brand-new piece called “approximating a steam engine”.

approximating a steam engine will be shown as part of THE REST OF NOW, curated by the raqs media collective (monica narula, jeebesh bagchi, shuddhabrata sengupta).

currently the mobile music workshop takes place here in vienna. just like last year i’m taking part. tomorrow we (fares and me) are presenting a number of prototypes for musical instruments on the nintendo DS.

this is only for the mac users out there. i came back to work with quartz composer recently. the new version that comes with leopard is just amazing. plus, they finally opened the api. no more hacking necessary. and they built in OSC. here comes my first experiment with support from the sudden motions sensor plug-in.

looks like the patch does not work in the browser. you have to download it.

bagatelle concrÃ¨te will be on show at the homo ludens ludens exhibition taking place at the laboral in gijon, spain. the show runs from april 18th to September 22nd. i’ll also give a talk at the accompanying conference of the same name.
